The "pop princess" Annie Khalid has been in the news for various reasons these days. First it was her new album which surprised millions. She came up with a video for a new single shortly afterwards. She has also been appointed Ambassador for the International Red Cross which is a huge honour. We caught up with the young diva while she toured Pakistan and talked about all that has been going on in her musical career.

Famous Lollywood Actress Chakori passes away on November 1, 2010.

She was ill for a while. She was married to famous actor Kaifee. She belongs to Sindh but got popularity in Punjabi films, especially in mega hit film Moula Jatt in 1979. Her role as "Daro Natni" was super hit role. She has two sons with Kaifee.

LOLLYWOOD was once considered Pakistan's answer to Bollywood, India's multi-million movie industry.

It's network of film studios used to produce hundreds of movies a year, filling cinemas in a country trying to develop its own cultural traditions and see off the overpowering influence of its giant neighbour.

But now many of the cinemas have closed and production almost halted as Bollywood sucks up Pakistani talent and deluges movie houses with Indian-made films, according to leading industry figures.

Today, Lahore produces only about 20 films a year - a fraction of the 1000 or so movies made in Mumbai's $1.3 billion industry.

Ali Sher latest collaborative venture - Ishq

Lahore: Following the successful release of his third studio album 'Beetaye Pal', Ali Sher introduces his work as a composer on a collaborative single with Rafaqat Ali Khan entitled 'Ishq'.

Originally written by Ghulam Farid Khan, Ali's composition is inspired by the Sindhi Bharwain Rag and is a fusion of both Eastern and Western instruments such as Ethnic Percussions, Muted Guitar, 'Tabla', 'Dholak' and 'Duff'. He has also incorporated African instruments such as the 'D.Jembe' and 'Congo'.

Rafaqat Ali Khan, who hails from the illustrious Sham Chaurasia Gharana is renowned for his work in various Bollywood productions including the Hrithik Raushan hit 'Krrish'. In harmony with his family generational legacy, Rafaqat Ali Khan brings the classical 'Khayal Gayeki' inspiration and tradition to Ali Sher's composition.

Speaking about this collaboration, Ali Sher has said, "I've always wanted to collaborate with Rafaqat Sahab, but never got a chance. I've seen him perform numerous times, and have been mesmerized by the depth and passion with which he sings. I believe Rafaqat Sahab's 'Gayeki' is deeply rooted in our heritage and I am thrilled to be a part of 'Ishq'.

"This 'Kafi' style of singing has been around for over 100 years and belongs to my Gharana. Ali Sher has composed and arranged this song beautifully. He is an intelligent and passionate musician and we are currently planning on doing a whole album together." says Rafaqat Ali Khan on his collaboration with Ali Sher for 'Ishq'.

Recorded at Ali Sher's studio, Ishq has been roughly arranged based on the free form vocals of Rafaqat Ali Khan. With the release of this song, Ali Sher plans to collaborate with various classical and Sufi artists in the future to develop his work as a composer.

The name Omer Nadeem may not ring too many bells among the larger audience, but the fact of the matter is that this guy has been around long enough to work with some of the major music acts of Pakistan these days including Atif Aslam.
Although fame has eluded him from time to time he is now ready to expose his real talent and take the level up a notch.
It was when he was 12 that his interest in music began to increase. He was friends with Haider Haleem at the time and Goher Mumtaz would come to Haider�s place to give him guitar lessons. In such circumstances Omer was, more or less, a self taught guitarist, his own passion driving him to observe and learn what he can by himself.

Musicians doing and wearing over the Eid ...

What do musicians do on Eid? Well, they spend it like any other Pakistani, mostly traditionally. This Eid survey threw up some surprising results. Amanat Ali of Kohram fame is possibly the most fashion conscious musician going, followed by Farhan Saeed and Goher Mumtaz of Jal. On the other hand, hardcore rocker Ali Noor is against blowing up big bucks for a designer outfit on Eid. His brother Ali Hamza wears whatever his mother or grandmother wants him to and so does Ehtesham of 'Aisi Taisi' fame. Nearly everyone favours tradition for a day or two at most and then will get back into their jeans and chill out... except for Uns Mufti who gives out the loudest rebel yell of all...

Khuda Zameen Se Gia Nahin

The production work on a mega drama serial on the issue of militancy and terrorism "Khuda Zameen Se Gia Nahin" is in full swing these days. Written by renowned writer Asghar Nadeem Syed the Serial is being directed by a young director Kashif Nisar. Rich on the feelings of nationalism, sacrifice, valor and fighting spirit, the serial contains sequences that are akin to Hollywood production standards.

These sequences have been shot on the challenging locations of Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Jehlum, Islamabad and Frontier province. Instead of using artificial sets new constructions have been undertaken to meet the demand of 'Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin'. Another striking aspect of this drama is that artistes from all over Pakistan have performed in the play. The cast includes Nauman Ijaz, Ayesha Khan, Ayub Khoso, Syed Jibran, Sara Chaudhry, Tipu, Irum Akhtar, Rasheed Naz, Rashid Mehmood, Asim Bokhari, Azeem Sajjad, Najeeba Faiz and Capt. Zeeshan Malik among several others.

Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin

Viewers will see these artistes in a novel way depicting real life situations which have been missing in conventional drama serials. To the surprise of viewers Nauman Ijaz will be appearing as a Pushtun youth for the first time in his acting career.The serial will depict the exploitation of youth by militants converting them into suicide bombers. It will also exhibit the agony of destruction of human psyche and relationships in wake of rampant terrorism in country in a realistic manner.

The Title Track of the drama has been sung by prominent singer and nephew of legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan while the credit for earnest music goes to eminent music director Sahir Ali Bagga. The hear touching lyrics have been written by a young poet Imran Raza. The song is being telecast on all television and FM Radio networks across the country. "Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahin" will soon be telecast on leading TV networks all across Pakistan.

Only a single Punjab film will be released in Lahore on this Eid-ul-Fittar. Four Urdu movies are scheduled as well. Two Pashto movies will be screened in Pakhtonkha and Karachi's cinemas. Here are Eid-ul-Fittar moves 2009:
